There’s a lot of talk about superpowers these days. All kinds of fictional characters who live in a Marvel world can do phenomenal things.
According to Dictionary.com, superpower is having power greater in magnitude than that which is considered natural or has previously existed. It pushes beyond what we once considered “normal.”
And when you think about it, we accomplish that all the time.
Once upon a time, we would never have believed someone could run and break the four minute mile. When Roger Bannister broke the record in 1954, there was no turning back. In the last 75 years, the mile record has been lowered by almost 17 seconds.
It’s not just in running or sports. It’s in everything we do. What was once impossible is now doable. But it always takes one person doing it the very first time to prove it can be accomplished. It’s believing you can do it first, then setting out to change the world.
How can you harness your own superpower?
Positive Speech
How many negative words do you use every day? When you say things like “I can’t do that” or “I’m not good enough,” you’re actually stopping your own growth, your own potential. Choose your words carefully and when you find yourself thinking negatively, turn it around. Add to your life, the people around you, what you contribute to the world, instead of tearing it down.
Mind-Body Connection
We’re only just starting to realize the power of how your mind and your body work together. We read about extreme cases where people mind-control away all kinds of problems and issues, even cancer, and other debilitating diseases. One thing is for sure: when they work together, it’s a very powerful thing. Listen to what your body is telling you. Supercharge it with the best foods possible.
Listen To Your Inner Voice
How many times do you do things for others without listening to your true calling? That inner voice is there telling you what to do. What we do and who we are isn’t defined at any one stage of our lives. We always have options. We have the ability to change at any point in time. You are never too [fill in the blank] to start something new
See Others
Ever get caught up in your own drama and forget about the people around you? We all do it. That’s what being human is all about. But what if you looked at things through someone else’s eyes? What if your experiences were changed and you approached things from different avenues? Being compassionate and empathetic towards others can allow you to see things in a new way. It can trigger things you’ve never thought about before.
Change Your Space
Your reactions control how you approach everything that happens in your life. You can scream and yell, or smile and relax. You either react or let it go. It’s hard to remember that in the throes of an argument or in the middle of a crisis. But ultimately it’s your approach that matters most. Deep breathing and taking a ten second break can often change your perspective and give you room to consider your options. It’s how you approach it that matters most.
