Flu bugs. Germs. Sickness.
We all do what we can to eliminate them from our lives.
But have you looked at what’s in your favorite cleaning product? What are those chemicals lurking inside the bottle?
Should you really use it on surfaces your family will touch?
Getting a clean house, however, is still a priority. We don’t want those germs and bacteria to linger, doing us more harm than good.
Luckily, we have a choice. Just by opening up your pantry or refrigerator, you’ll find several natural products that can be as good.
White Vinegar
White vinegar is a powerful cleaner that cuts through grease, removes mildew, odors, and stains. And thanks to its high acetic qualities, it also makes a great disinfectant. It’s a safe alternative to bleach.
Lemon
The citric acid in lemons can be used as a sanitizer on non-porous surfaces and shine oxidized metal. Although it is less effective than white vinegar, it still works hard to reduce bacteria on hard surfaces.
Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide has been used as an antiseptic on cuts for a century because of its ability to kill bacteria. It can also be used to kill mold and remove stains on white clothing. Keep in mind that it will also bleach out colorful fibers and etch into hard surface areas over time.
Steam
The simple combination of water and heat can cause even the most stubborn stains to be wiped away easily. Try heating a bowl of water in the microwave for a minute or two. Stuck on foods will wipe away. You can also use this to remove grease and sanitize both hard and soft surfaces.
Essential Oils
Essential oils have a wide array of medicinal and healing properties. They can also be powerful agents against bacteria and fungus. When added to solutions of water and soap, they have cleaning properties, and can help rid your home of mold, mildew, and musty smells.
