Does your job energize you or drain you of all your energy?
A job can take a lot out of you. Working 8 to 10 hours, five days a week, then adding on even more hours for commuting can leave you feeling drained.
But considering it encompasses a vast majority of your waking hours, wouldn’t it be nice if it energized you instead?
What can you do?
Get up earlier
I know, it sounds counterintuitive. But adding a few minutes of time before you head out for the day can give your energy levels a boost. Spend a few extra minutes playing with your pets. Read a good book. Do a little yoga. It can help you relax and feel rejuvenated before you head out the door.
Spend your commute time learning
Instead of listening to talk radio that can leave you anxious, try an audiobook instead. You can listen to a great story, or even learn a new language. You’ll be amazed at how quickly the time slips away when you enjoy yourself instead of yelling at the car in front of you.
Take lots of breaks
If you’re the type that sits in front of the computer for hours, give it a break. Set a timer and go for a short walk every hour. Not only will it make you feel better by loosening up your muscles, but it can also give you the creative spark you’ve been looking for too.
Pay attention to your snacks
Every desk has a drawer filled with snacks - what’s in yours? Is it filled with candy and chips? Clean it out and give yourself a more energizing snack. Try nuts, berries, energy bars, or fresh fruit and veggies. Ditch the soda for water. You may find as you gain more energy, you lose weight too.
Be kind to coworkers
Like to bake? Why not bring in your creations and share them with the office? That helps lift everyone’s spirits and it can help you get to know your coworkers on a more personal basis.
Leave work at work
Always remember it’s just a job. At the end of the day, make a to-do list to ensure you can get right back into the job the next morning. It will help you let go of tasks still left to do. It also means your mind is free to do other things when you leave for the day.
