Years ago, motivational speaker Jim Rohn stated that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with.
That’s based on the law of averages. It only makes sense that we’re most like the people we spend the most amount of time with. So, in theory, if you change who you hang with, you're likely to change right along with them.

Relationships dictate our world, whether we like it or not. They motivate us. They influence us. They change the way we think. They impact our decisions.
If you want to make changes that stick this year, it may take a bit more than listing out your resolutions and goals on paper. Maybe the real way to change is to find a friend who can push you to be what you truly desire.
Support
Everyone needs a friend who supports you no matter what. Whether you’re at your best or your worst, whether you need someone to celebrate with or commiserate with, they’re there. You don’t have to do anything to fit in; you’re accepted for being you.
Mentor
This is a person you turn to for advice. They may be a career coach or someone who’s “been there, done that.” They help fill your brain with ideas, and can motivate you to take the steps necessary to move forward.
Promoter
We all need people that hear our rally cry and push us no matter what. If you do good, they’re first in line to pat you on the back. They give you a smile when you need it most. They build you up no matter what side of the bed you wake up on. They’re there to make you the best you can be.
Accountant
Do you speak your speak? Do you walk your walk? Sometimes you need to be held accountable for your actions. Your accountant friend will be there to do that. They’ll support you as you’re transitioning from place to place. They’ll also call you out when you don’t meet your goals.
Playmate
We all need a person to be silly with. Your playmate will bring out your creative side, and give you the push you need to release and let go. If you find the right playmate, they can help you stretch and grow.
Of course, as part of the process, you’ll take on these roles with your friends too. That’s why they call it friendship! As you start to assemble your team, pay attention to what position each member of your team fills, and look carefully at what roles you take on.
